The temple is dedicated to Lord Thodakukkinar, who is worshipped as a divine protector. Special poojas and rituals are conducted on auspicious days such as Sankramana and during annual jathre festivals. The temple’s tranquil atmosphere and spiritual significance make it a cherished destination for worship and peace.

The Story of Thodakukkinar Swami
The story of Thodakukkinar Swami is derived from Paddhanas (one of the most inspiring literatures of Thulunad). A cattle seller, on his way to sell cattle, reaches Tulunad. During the journey, Thodakukkinar Swami, in the form of a divine soul, enters the body of one of the cattle named Chennamangala. However, the cattle seller was unaware of this event.
The seller brings the herd of cattle for sale to a place called Dharmakki near Poopadikallu (also known as Hoohakuvakkallu). Hearing about the arrival of the cattle seller, some members of the Poyyathaya family come to purchase cattle. While selecting, they are attracted to the beauty of Chennamangala and purchase it.
On their way home, evening sets in, and they stop to offer Sanyavandana (prayer to the Sun God). They tie the purchased cattle to a mango tree and proceed to a nearby pond for the prayer. After finishing, they return to find the cattle missing. While searching, they hear the clinching sound of the bell tied around Chennamangala’s neck, coming from the top of the same tree where it was tied, but they cannot find the cattle.
Suddenly, the departed divine soul from the cattle enters one of them and conveys that they have purchased a cattle in which the divine presence existed. It demands to stay at that place permanently and instructs them to build a temple. Agreeing to the divine will, the members witness the cattle, which had vanished into thin air, reappear.
Finding the divine spirit near the mango tree close to the pond, they name it Thodakukkinar Swami. Families such as Poyyathayaru, Narya Guthu, Belleri, Adekala, and Kodla Mogaru are the heritors of this sacred temple.
Annual Celebrations
Every year during April/May, a 5-day religious program is organized, attracting numerous devotees from various regions. During these five days, various cultural programs are held, organized by different associations associated with the temple. A special highlight of the celebrations is the Shree Ullalthi Daiva Nema, conducted especially on the 3rd day.
Additionally, special offerings are made to Swami Thodakukkinar Swami during major festivals such as Deepavali, Navarathri, Shravana, and Sankramana.

ತೋಡಕುಕ್ಕಿನಾರ್ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಕಥೆ ತುಳುನಾಡಿನ ಪ್ರೇರಣಾದಾಯಕ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾದ ಪಾರ್ದನಗಳಿಂದ ಪಡೆದಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಒಂದು ಹಸು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿ ಹಸುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾರಾಟ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೋಗುವಾಗ ತುಳುನಾಡಿಗೆ ಆಗಮಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಈ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದ ವೇಳೆ, ತೋಡಕುಕ್ಕಿನಾರ್ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಒಂದು ದೈವಿಕ ಆತ್ಮದ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಚೆನ್ನಮಂಗಲ ಎಂಬ ಹಸುವಿನ ದೇಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಈ ಘಟನೆ ಹಸು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿ ತನ್ನ ಹಸುಗಳ ಗುಂಪನ್ನು ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಕಿ ಎಂಬ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾರಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆತರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಹಸು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿ ಆಗಮಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದ ಪೊಯ್ಯತ್ತಾಯ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಕೆಲವರು ಹಸು ಖರೀದಿಸಲು ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಸುಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡುವಾಗ ಅವರು ಚೆನ್ನಮಂಗಲ ಹಸುವಿನ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಆಕರ್ಷಿತರಾಗಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಮನೆಗೆ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗುವ ವೇಳೆ ಸಂಜೆ ಆಗಿದೆಯೆಂದು ಅವರು ಸನ್ಯಾವಂದನೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಖರೀದಿಸಿದ ಹಸುವನ್ನು ಮಾವಿನ ಮರಕ್ಕೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿ, ಸಮೀಪದ ಕೆರೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಮರಳಿ ಬಂದಾಗ ಹಸು ಕಾಣೆಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹುಡುಕುವಾಗ, ಚೆನ್ನಮಂಗಲ ಹಸುವಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ಗಂಟೆಯ ಶಬ್ದವು ಅದೇ ಮರದ ಮೇಲಿಂದ ಕೇಳಿಸಿತು, ಆದರೆ ಹಸು ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ಆಚಾನಕ, ಹಸುವಿನಿಂದ ಹೊರಬಂದ ದೈವಾತ್ಮ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತದೆ—ಅವರು ಖರೀದಿಸಿದ್ದ ಹಸುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದೈವಿಕ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಸದಾಕಾಲ ವಾಸಿಸಲು ಈ ದೈವ ಇಚ್ಛಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ಸೂಚನೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ದೈವದ ಇಚ್ಛೆಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿದ ನಂತರ, ಹಿಂದಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಕಾಣೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಹಸು ಮತ್ತೆ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಉತ್ಸವಗಳು
ಪ್ರತಿವರ್ಷ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್/ಮೇ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಐದು ದಿನಗಳ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಹಲವಾರು ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಿಂದ ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಐದು ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವಿಧ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳು ಆಯೋಜಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಈ ಉತ್ಸವದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯೆಂದರೆ ಮೂರನೇ ದಿನ ನಡೆಯುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಉಳ್ಳಾಲ್ತಿ ದೈವ ನೇಮ.
ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ದೀಪಾವಳಿ, ನವರಾತ್ರಿ, ಶ್ರಾವಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಕ್ರಮಣದಂತಹ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಹಬ್ಬಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ತೋಡಕುಕ್ಕಿನಾರ್ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಅರ್ಪಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
